Magick Alphabet

R is for Ritual

A ritual, as defined in the dictionary, is “a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order” but it can be so much more than that.

Some rituals are extremely important, long and complex. The rituals performed in ceremonial magick are quite intricate.  They can involve speaking, song, dance as well as the order in which actions are performed.

There are simple rituals one can conduct. Greeting the sun as well as rituals to awaken magickal awareness like the Ritual of the Pentagram are good examples.

Maybe you have participated in a ritual and didn’t know it. Some rituals are simple – like taking a bath or reciting of traditional vows in a wedding.

Magick Alphabet

I is for Incense

Incense. It seems that all magick practitioners burn it. But why?

Some people burn incense during rituals, others burn it when meditating or in prayer, and others just like the way it smells. It is used to purify spaces, make offerings to gods and goddesses, and to amplify intentions as well as other uses. Incense is one of the oldest forms of magick dating back to Egyptian time and even the story of Jesus’s birth had incense as a gift.

Incense comes in all scents including popular patchouli, lovely lavender and earthy eucalyptus. It comes in different varieties like sticks and cones.
